Calling Parents for Open House From Ruth Adrian, a fourth grade teacher at Ft. Dix Elementary School in Ft. Dix, New Jersey: ìEvery September just before back-to-school night, I call each childís family to invite them. There is always a guarded voice when the parents or kids respond to my introduction. Thereís a sign of relief and pure pleasure in the hellos as the parents accept the invitation and thank me. I can actually see their warm smiles as I am hanging up. Besides saying hello and extending the invitation, I reap the benefits of excellent attendance, family participation and a long list of volunteers.î
